Mead Simon began designing chainmail pieces in Chicago in the mid-1980s. At a time when all other chainmail artists were either high-end fashion designers in Europe, or armourers at Renaissance Faires, Mead found a middle ground, experimenting with new weaves and more affordable clothing items.

After multiplying the available repertoire of patterns from under 10 to over 150 in just a few short years, he began to travel across the United States sharing his innovative pieces with many around the country, expanding the vision of what was possible with chainmail.

Since moving to Canada in the 1990s, he has continued to help advance the art and encourage many others to broaden their own horizons of just what is possible.

As a designer and an artist he believes his role is to help bring out the natural beauty found in all his clients. Chainmail is just one of the tools he uses in this endeavour.
